But, unfortunately, such commands that seem simple and basic to us are most often associated with the natural needs of our pets and basic interests, that is, to teach our dog to stop playing with other animals and run on a command to call to the owner …

Why should he suddenly be interested in resorting to the owner, when he has his friends here and is now playing tag or wrestling, or he found a dead crow and is trying to devour it, and then the owner somewhere from afar shouts “Come to me !”, and the crow is already here, it is here. And this is the natural species-typical behavior of our pet.

And if our dog went for a walk in the field with us, picked up a hare and now she is chasing, she has a hunting instinct, she is interested and good, she gets dopamines (a hormone of incredible pleasure), and suddenly the owner calls the dog on a call command, why suddenly should our dog leave the hare and run to the owner?

Of course, it is possible to teach this command so that the dog performs it in a complicated environment, in an environment with strong stimuli, but this will require our involvement. It will require working out a certain number of games, if we are talking about working in line with the operant method of learning, in line with learning with the help of positive reinforcement, we are talking about the fact that we do not punish the dog for disobeying, we are talking about what we offer the dog a whole system of different games from simple to more complex. In which we teach the dog, first of all: what is the call command, what does it mean by itself. In the future, we begin to work out more complex situations and teach the dog to choose a host or stimulus, or to choose a host in the presence of a stimulus. Then we teach the dog to be able to stop when the dog runs towards the stimulus and return to the owner.

There is a time for everything and, of course, in 2-3 days we will not be able to teach even a brilliant dog to return from a very difficult environment. But it is possible. But it will require time, efforts, and investments of our psychological, proper training, etc.
