Every year, thousands of domestic cats open the summer season together with their owners, enjoying the sun, grass and relatives. However, unfortunately, not all pets return to spend the winter in apartments. Part of the end disappears without a trace and forever. It is the cats that are allowed to walk around a seemingly safe area in the country that especially need a GPS tracker. It is also worth buying such a device for pet owners who once already ran away from the apartment to the “big world”. It is far from a fact that the cat will not decide to repeat its escape, but it will never come back.

Collars with a GPS tracker, which are now produced by many companies, have a similar principle of operation and consist of a beacon and a receiver. Depending on the model, the beacon can be either simply attached to the collar or built into its structure itself. Communication with the owner of the collar is carried out using the mobile Internet. To do this, the tracker needs a SIM card. The receiver is a smartphone with a special application installed on it. Some of the applications allow you to install a so-called electronic leash. If a cat wearing a collar with a beacon goes out of the space you have designated, the application will notify you.

Thanks to the beacon, you can track the path of your pet on the map. However, the operation of the tracker depends on how often it communicates with the satellite or cell towers, and on the signal strength. The accuracy is 60-150 meters from the specified point.

You also need to remember that collars with beacons need recharging, and if you don’t keep track and completely discharge the battery on the device, then the collar will become just a pretty trinket that will not help you in any way in finding a pet via GPS.

It is legal?

Yes, beacons can be used. But in order not to get fined and get into trouble by ordering devices abroad, it is worth buying such collars for cats in Russia, where they have already been certified. A collar with a GPS tracker purchased abroad can be regarded by customs as “a special technical device designed to secretly obtain information.” Such funds are prohibited from entering the country and can cost owners who simply wanted to track the movements of their pets at least a hefty fine.
